It also gives the extra functionality to define a user's own language for the syntax folding and syntax highlighting. You can print your source code in color. It allows a user to edit the different document in the same time and even to edit the same document synchronizely in 2 different views. Notepad supports full drag and drop. The programming languages supported by Notepad are: ASP, Ada, ASCII art, Assembly, AutoIt, BAT, C, C#, C, Caml, CSS, doxygen, FORTRAN, HTML, Haskell, Java, javascript, KiXtart, Lisp, Lua, makefile, Matlab, Objective-C, Pascal, Perl, PHP, PostScript, Python, Ruby, Scheme, Unix Shell Script, Smalltalk, SQL, Tcl, TeX, Verilog, VHDL, VB/VBScript, XML.
Are you talking about WinXP, 7 or 8? The installer of v5.3 does not run under Windows7. Even the compatibility modes do not help, because the installer contains 16 bit programs, which cannot be emulated on 64 bit machines anymore. I have not been able to install Matlab 6.5 under Windows 7 due to the same reason, although the actual program is a pure 32-bit application.
Perhaps it would be possible to install Matlab on a USB stick, but after discussions with the technical support it got clear, that this would violate the license conditions. Therefore I run Matlab 6.5 in a virtual 32bit XP machine under Win7/64. This works fluently, except for the old tedious warnings about the exhausted notification handles. Running 5.3 would have severe side effects:.
There are a lot of incompatibilities to current Matlab versions: No dynamic field names S.('field'), no MExceptions for TRY/CATCH, no true / false, no short-circuting operators && and , no REGEXP, MOVEFILE, WINOPEN, TIMER, no mfilename('fullpath'), no numel, no internal casting in fread, no OpenGL rendering, no uigetdir, no function handles, no continue in loops, no cast and typecast, no regexp, no ancestor, no dataread (which is outdated again, so even no textscan), no strfind, but the dangerous findstr. Most algebraic functions are not defined for single or integer types, no (u)int64. Some serious bugs exist in 5.3. This means that you have to debug all your code twice under remarkably different conditions, when you run 5.3 and a modern version. The editor is known to crash frequently.
After I've struggeled for 2 years with it, I still press Ctrl-S every 5 minutes - even when I'm in this forum. The startup time and the delays in the editor are extremely short: No huge Java libs are loaded, no smart but costly MLint parsing, no ugly Java thrilled GUIs. You will feel real pain when you return to a current version of Matlab.
Inspite of the missing JIT acceleration, Matlab 5.3 runs really fast, at least for an old version of my medium-sized program (150'000 lines of code, all bottleneck-loops implemented as single threaded C-Mex). 40% of the time are spend with import and export to the hard-disk, such that the Matlab version does not have a significant influence, other 40% (under 5.3!) are spend with creating a bunch of complex figures with a lot of diagrams, lines, patchs, buttons and legends. And due to the modern Java basement, this part needs 4 times longer in Matlab 2011b.
So guess, if the remaining 20% processing time can be accelerated by modern partially multi-threaded toolbox functions and super-Jitting. But on the other hand: The old code has 2400 MLint warnings (which I do not fix, because I maintain a modern version of this program with the double number of lines now). Fixing them or fighting with the bugs would cost much more time than the faster runtime can save. So I strongly recommend not to develop code under Matlab 5.3 anymore and not to amputate current code to be backward compatible to this old version.

Unfortunately, not all maths operations can be carried out by counting with our fingers or turning to a calculator, not even a scientific one. For more complex calculations we have to resort to maths software tools as is the case of this MATLAB, one of the most popular scientific programs among students and engineers all over the world. But if you've come here with the intention to find out how to download it to your PC, you probably know what it's all about.
In fact, I bet you're some kind of college student, a future engineer of some sort that's studying at a technology university, that already knows about the advantages of using the program developed by Mathworks. And also how unbearable it can be with its own interpreted programming language and its function, array, axis, if or for instructions, to just name a few, slightly different to the C or Java syntax that you may be more used to.
The most complete maths program on the market. Because, let's be honest, this program isn't for any old user and getting hold of its online installer is only recommendable if you really need a very advanced maths software capable of working with vectors, matrices, programmed functions and commands that you'll have to learn from scratch.
I know that I'm not being too encouraging but its learning process is quite hard. However, you can find loads of online assistance to use it, thanks to the guides and tutorials available on the Internet, and even the help instruction can get you out of a tight spot.
Main features. Wide range of tools to explore, design and solve all kinds of maths problems.
Includes all kinds of functions focused on linear algebra, statistics or numerical optimization and integration. Carry out maths operations with large data volumes and store all the results in vectors or matrices: integrals, derivatives, trigonometry, etc. Possibility to develop your own maths functions and call them from other programs. Large catalog of mathematical libraries and functions at your disposal.
Create all kinds of customized graphical user interfaces thanks to the tools it includes. Simulate dynamic systems by means of blocks thanks to the SimuLink library. Loads of toolboxes that expand the functions of the main module. Multiplatform that works both on Windows and macOS, as well as Linux distributions. Possibility to modify and adjust different parameters such as the number of decimals to be shown in the results of the operations. Native apps for image acquisition, signal analysis, and statistical distributions.
Obtain 2D and 3D graphics with ease. Where can I download MATLAB for free? If you've come here because you want to download for free a version of this program to study numerical calculus, algebra or vectorial analysis on your home computer or in the library with your laptop, you probably already know that you can't get hold of this software without paying.
You'll have to cope with using the program in the computer labs of your university or downloading a trial version for students that will provide you with limited access to the program's functions. Depending on the level of depth with which you thought about making use of the application, you'll find the demo useful or not. But, in any case, which is the newest or most recent version of MATLAB that you can download? How many versions are there? Well, right now this program is in its version R2016b released in September of 2016, but we wouldn't be surprised if a 2017 version is launched shortly because ever since Cleve Moler published the first edition back in 1984 there have been periodical updates almost every year.
One feels old thinking about the fact that the first version I used was 6.5 released in 2002. Which one's better? MATLAB, Mathematica, SciLab, Maple or LabView? As usual when it comes to comparing similar computer programs, trying to decide which one's the best isn't at all easy and mainly depends on how we're intending to use the program and our needs. All the above-mentioned applications, as well as others of the likes of Derive or Octave, are really good in the maths field but, without disregarding the others, if you know how to use it MATLAB is probably the best software in this sector.
